Lasik
Associated Risks
Because our surgeons are thoroughly trained, highly skilled and have
vast experience in performing LASIK surgery, you can trust them to
do the best job possible. However, as with any surgical procedure,
LASIK surgery carries some risks and may result in certain side
effects. Infection, inflammation and slow healing of the flap are
some of the reported risks. Regression of refractive effect may
occur, in a small number of cases, and you may need retreatment.
Right after surgery, you may notice a "halo" effect at night, dry
eyes, watery eyes, discomfort, light sensitivity and some changes in
your vision during the healing process. Vision normally fluctuates
as the eye heals. Although vision usually stabilizes within weeks of
surgery, it sometimes takes several months to stabilize.
These problems usually improve in the weeks following the surgery.
However, there are rare reports of permanent vision loss and other
eye problems following surgery. Please discuss these risks with your
surgeon before deciding to proceed with surgery.
If you choose to have both eyes fully corrected for best distance
vision, then you will most likely need glasses to read if you are
over 40-45 years of age.
